Transport is a major source of emissions in the UK, the Government is already taking steps towards reducing these emissions, including a target to end the sale of petrol and diesel cars by the year 2040 and improving the infrastructure for electric vehicles. There are steps we can all take in the mean time to contribute to a greener commute:
- Consider cycling instead of driving: beneficial for the environment and for your physical and mental wellbeing.
- Walking more can help your mental and physical wellbring too so why not set off a little earlier if you can. Taking part in schemes such as Walk to school week too: there are similar initiatives up and down the UK, and this doesn’t have to be just for the week.
- Electric cars: better for the environment and cheaper to maintain – we know that at the moment, this option isn’t the most affordable but keeping this in mind for a longer term goal when you are looking to purchase your next car.
- Use public transport: travelling on public transport can give you some time out, do some life admin on the bus, read a book on the train or just listen to a podcast or some music.
- Car share: a great way to catch up with a friend, colleague or relative.
