Family Days Out

We all love a day out at the seaside or to our local attraction but many of us don’t think about the planet at the same time, here are some simple things to think about:

  • Can you take your own buckets and spades from your sandpit or football from the garden rather than buying new each time you visit?
  • Think about where you are visiting and how good for the environment that is, we all love a rollercoaster ride (well, most do) but think about this vs a visit to your local beauty spot where the kids can have just as much fun jumping on rocks, paddling in the river and climbing trees.
  • If you take a picnic, think about what you are taking with you – try to limit the amount of wastage and single-use plastic in your picnics.
Here are some sustainable picnicking ideas:
  • Bring reusable plates, cutlery and glasses.
  • Choose loose fruits and vegetables.
  • Get your cheese and meat from a fresh counter.
  • Make your own dips and take them in a reusable plastic box.
  • Use any leftovers to make compost.
  • Cook from scratch instead of buying pre-packaged sandwiches and produce.
  • Ditch the clingfilm and use reusable boxes instead.
  • Instead of individually packed drinks, take your water bottle pre-made with the kids favourite drinks
