Face Oils

Face oils make great cleansers, even if you have oily skin and they’re really easy to make. They’re made by blending carrier oils with essential oils. Carrier oils are derived from the fatty portion of plants, nuts, and seeds, while essential oils are distilled from the petals, leaves, bark, stems, and roots of plants.

The best carrier oils for skincare include organic argan oil (a fast-absorbing oil that’s great for anti-aging), olive oil, grapeseed oil (best for oily skin, it’s lightweight and high in Vitamin C), jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil and coconut oil (high in antioxidants and Vitamin E, but can break certain skin types out). Look for oils that are 100% pure, free from any additives, adulterants, or dilutions.

*Note: Certain essential oils should be avoided by pregnant women, infants, and young children, so be sure to consult your doctor or dermatologist before using any oils.

Homemade Hair Masks

A homemade hair mask can help with a number of issues from dry frizzy hair to an irritated scalp and most ingredients you can already find in your kitchen, here are 3 great DIY hair mask recipes:

For an irritated scalp: Combine 1 cup of green tea, 2 drops of peppermint oil, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, mix it well before massaging into scalp for five minutes then properly rinsing.

For damaged hair: Combine half an avocado, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply to wet hair with your fingertips, starting at the bottom and working your way up. Cover your hair with a shower cap then to help activate the ingredients, blow dry your shower cap-covered hair for 10 minutes. Then let it sit for another 20 minutes and wash out in the shower.

For shiny hair: Mix equal parts raw organic honey with apple cider vinegar and coconut oil. Apply the blend to damp hair and leave on for at least 20 minutes, then shampoo out. It’s great for all hair types and helps lock in colour as well.
