Meal Prepping

Meal prepping involves batch cooking meals in one go that can easily be reheated when you need them – doing all the chopping, measuring and cooking at once and then reaping the benefits later in the week. With busy schedules and hectic lives, we’re much more likely to eat healthier, well-balanced meals if they’re prepared and easily ready.

Spend some time putting together your own menu, consisting of four or five your favourite meals, write down what ingredients you need for each meal. Fresh, less-processed ingredients will keep longer when cooked, vegetables, pasta, potatoes, unprocessed meat, fish etc. are all perfect. Write down which meal you will have on each day, so you have a plan.

Once your meals are cooked and prepared, separate them into individual containers (one for each serving) and consider how you’ll heat up the food to decide which container is best. There’s lots of choice out there when it comes to containers, oven proof, leak proof, plastic free etc.

This concept works perfectly for families or individuals and meals don’t always need to be prepared and refrigerated, you can plan further ahead and freeze meals too.

The BBC Good Food website has a great range of batch cooking recipes, many of which are really simple and easy.
